Piers Morgan Has Made His Feelings Clear on Jannik Sinner After Doping Ban

The outspoken journalist and TV presenter previously offered his thoughts on the US Open finalist.

Piers Morgan did not hold back when previously offering his take on Jannik Sinner’s doping ban during the 2024 US Open.

Reigning US Open men’s singles champion Sinner, 24, will once again go toe-to-toe with Carlos Alcaraz in a Grand Slam final on Sunday (September 7) as the Italian looks to replicate his success having beaten the Spaniard at Wimbledon back in July.

So far in 2025, Sinner has won two – Wimbledon and the Australian Open - of the three Grand Slams, while Alcaraz defeated him in the French Open showpiece back in June.

And Sinner’s continued success this year comes after he served a three-month World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) ban between February 4 and May 4 after he settled with the body over two positive drug tests in 2024.

The world number one tested positive for low levels of metabolite clostebol - a muscle-building steroid, according to BBC Sport.

Eight days later, he returned a second positive test for low levels of the same substance, which is used in products to treat swelling and irritation.

The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) found that Sinner was contaminated with the substance by his physiotherapist, after he had been applying an over-the-counter spray in Italy to a cut in his own hand before carrying out treatments on the tennis star.

The ITIA then accepted his explanation.

Despite testing positive, Sinner was still allowed to compete in the 2024 US Open, which he won, due to his successful challenge of a provisional suspension.

And it’s fair to say the outspoken Morgan did not think that this should’ve been the case.

Following Sinner’s 2024 US Open victory, the tournament’s official X page posted a graphic of the tennis player before Morgan quote-tweeted the post, writing “*after failing TWO drugs tests. (Fixed it for you)”.

Then, in February 2025, he took to X again, this time commenting on a BBC Sport post related to Sinner accepting his three-month ban.

Morgan wrote: “A ‘settlement’? I didn’t realise drug offence punishments in sport could be negotiated… what a joke.”

Serena Williams' true feelings on Jannik Sinner ban

Many big names in tennis have offered their opinions on Sinner’s case, but most have not been as outspoken as 23-time Grand Slam winner Serena Williams.

Speaking to TIME in April, the American expressed how Sinner is a “great guy” before going on to discuss his ban.

Williams claimed: "If I did that [tested positive for doping], I would have gotten 20 years. Let's be honest. I would have gotten Grand Slams taken away from me."
