The 2026 tennis season is well underway as the second major of the year, the French Open, is ongoing in at Roland Garros in Paris.
Following tennis star Carlos Alcaraz''s withdrawal due to an an injury to his right wrist which has also ruled him out of Wimbledon, world no.1 Sinner entered the tournament as the heavy favourite.
In his opening match, the Italian proved exactly why he was the top seed as he comfortably beat France's Clement Tabur 6-1, 6-3, 6-4 to book a spot in the second round.

However, not long after he arrived on court to face Argentina's Juan Manuel Cerundolo, it was clear that something was wrong with Sinner.
After leading Cerundolo by two sets and 5-1, the Italian suddenly started to struggle and went on to lose 18 consecutive points before walking off the court in the middle of a game.

Sinner did eventually play on but only managed to win two more games, leading to a devastating 3-6 2-6 7-5 6-1 6-1 defeat at the hands of the world No. 56, knocking him out of the French Open.
But the biggest concern wasn't the loss itself, but Sinner's behaviour as when he was serving the match for a second time at 5-4 he could be seen grabbing his leg and hip and even sat on the advertising boards at the side of the court to rest.
As the umpire came to check on him, Sinner could be heard saying: "I don't feel well, I feel like I'm going to throw up.”
Sinner then had a medical evaluation off court but did not receive a full medical timeout and then returned to lose three points in a row having already lost 15 consecutively.
Things only got worse from there for Sinner, who left for a comfort break before the fourth set, and took some tablets as it got started.
During the set it was clear that Sinner was struggling with cramp as he could be seen hobbling around the court and even drinking a fizzy drink during a changeover.
Sinner tried cooling himself down before the fifth and final set but eventually the health issues proved to be too much for him and he was knocked out in the biggest upset of the year so far.
It marks Sinner’s earliest Grand Slam loss in exactly three years and puts an end to his impressive unbeaten run of 30 matches.
