Jannik Sinner has confirmed that his 2026 season has been ended prematurely by his knee injury.
The tennis world number one retained his Wimbledon title but has struggled throughout this year. It has been decided that the time has come to draw a line under the season and undergo the necessary treatment.
Sinner had to pull out of the US Open amid his injury issues, ending the year with one appearance in a Grand Slam final after playing in all four in 2025.

"I would like to give you a little update," Sinner said in a video posted on Instagram.
"Together with the doctors [we] have decided that I need a course of treatment for my knee, which means that the 2026 season is officially over."
The Italian has not played in a competitive match since winning at Wimbledon in July. He's been out of action because of what's understood to be an inflammation injury to his right knee.
Sinner's absence robbed him of the opportunity to reach a third consecutive US Open final.
"The last couple of years, especially the ending in Turin, gave me so many beautiful feelings and emotions [but] this year is going to be way different," added the world number one.
"But at the moment, I also need to think about my long-term career.
"I will do everything possible to get back 100 percent. I thank you already in advance for your support and hope to see you very, very soon on court again."

Sinner's 2026 season has been a tough road after a glittering 2025
The 25-year-old has endured a frustrating campaign on and off the court.
After winning four Grand Slam championships in 2024 and 2025, playing in two more finals and never failing to reach the last eight, Sinner started 2026 by getting as far as the semi-finals of the Australian Open.
He was beaten there by Novak Djokovic, who went on to lose the final against Carlos Alcaraz.
Juan Manuel Cerundolo ended his French Open quest in five sets in the second round at Roland Garros but his Sinner's title defence in south-west London was the highlight of his season.
The reigning Wimbledon champion had to work to beat Miomir Kecmanovic in the first round but subsequently sailed past Nuno Borges, JT Brooksby and Shintaro Mochizuki.
He also won in straight sets against Jan-Lennard Struff in the quarter-finals and Novak Djokovic in the last four, before seeing off Alexander Zverev in four sets in the final to retain his title.
Sinner hasn't been able to return to the court since then, so it is perhaps not surprising that his team have opted to get the knee issue dealt with before the end of 2026.
