Fans have been reacting on social media after watching the Wimbledon ladies' singles final between Iga Swiatek and Amanda Anisimova.

On Saturday afternoon, all eyes were fixated on Centre Court at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club as the ladies' singles final took place.

After beating world number one Aryna Sabalenka in the semi-final, American Anisimova was looking to clinch her maiden Grand Slam title.

Meanwhile, Polish star Swiatek was hoping to lift her sixth major title.

Under the sun, Swiatek was in no mood to hang around as she thrashed Anisimova 6-0, 6-0 in less than an hour.

It was a difficult afternoon for the 23-year-old American as she became the first female player to lose 6-0, 6-0 in a Grand Slam final since 1988.

The last time the same scoreline happened at Wimbledon was back in 1911.

After the match, Anisimova was gracious in defeat as she shared a warm embrace with Swiatek at the net. The pair shared words and a hug before Swiatek celebrated her historic victory.

Reacting on social media, fans were quick to praise the American for her actions despite a tough loss.

One fan said: "Classy from Anisimova, gracious in defeat."

Another tweeted: "Props to Anisimova."

A third fan added: "Class from Amanda after a tough afternoon. Her time will come."

After heading back into the locker room, Anisimova was visibly upset as she re-entered the court for the trophy presentation.

Speaking after the match, Anisimova said: "You're such an incredible player, it showed today, you've been such an inspiration to me, an unbelievable athlete.

"You've had an incredible two weeks, getting to your first final here and winning, it's so special so congratulations to you and your team."

She added: "Thank you to everybody who has supported me, it's been an incredible atmosphere, you guys have carried me through this championship.

"Even though I ran out of gas a bit today and wish I could put on a better performance, you guys have lifted me up today."
