Carlos Alcaraz is debating playing doubles on the ATP Tour in 2027, after beating Taylor Fritz and Alexander Bublik with Jakub Mensik at the Laver Cup.
The pair prevailed 6-4, 6-4 at Roger Federer’s end-of-year tournament, that pits Team Europe versus Team World in London.
Alcaraz claimed: “I will consider some tournaments, some swings to play doubles, because I [had] a lot of fun. I enjoyed it so much out there,” days after slamming the ATP Tour’s taxing Singles schedule.

The Spaniard will next face Fritz in a Singles match at the Laver Cup, to be played at 7pm BST on Saturday evening at The O2.

That match will mark Alcaraz’s first Singles outing since his loss to Ben Shelton at the US Open, which ran for five sets, and a staggering four hours and 28 minutes.
In the doubles, he and Mensik won in straight sets versus Team World, saving five of five break points, and converting two of four themselves, in an 87-minute battle.
Notably, Alcaraz previously played in the format with Rafael Nadal, at the Paris Olympics in 2024. The Spaniards lost 6-2, 6-4 in the quarter-finals versus American duo Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram.
The seven-time Slam champion also joined forces with Serena Williams in the US Open Mixed Doubles this year, losing to Belinda Bencic and Alcaraz’s Team Europe colleague Flavio Cobolli in the quarter-finals.
At the Laver Cup, the 23-year-old paired with Casper Ruud, 2026 US Open champion Alexander Zverev, and again Mensik, at the 2024 and 2025 editions.
Speaking after his doubles victory on Friday, Alcaraz said: “I wish I could play more doubles, you know? During the whole year.
“Sometimes, it’s tricky, you know? Because the schedule of the singles, how demanding physically and mentally [it] can be, you know? [Even] a single match.
“Sometimes, I try to make the most of the day that I have between matches, to rest up and feel better for the next Singles match. I will consider some tournaments, some swings to play doubles, because I have a lot of fun. I enjoyed it so much out there,” Alcaraz concluded.

Carlos Alcaraz plots doubles career move days after slamming ‘too much’ ATP Tour schedule
After his gruelling quarter-final bout against Shelton at the US Open — in which Alcaraz was still recovering from a major injury — the Spaniard slammed the ATP Tour schedule as “too much.”
“The quarter-final was great — it was a gift for me,” claimed the seven-time Major winner. “I suffered, but I enjoyed [it]. That’s why I smiled when I walked out of the court, because I missed that feeling.
“But I think it’s too much,” confessed Alcaraz. “The last match, [some] people stayed, but if that match was played earlier, the court could have been packed.
“I would like to change the schedule a little, with a maximum finish of 11pm, or whatever would be better,” concluded the 23-year-old.
The Spaniard was sidelined for five months with an upper limb injury — which are fast on the ATP Tour rise, according to Sir Andy Murray — before his US Open run.
Alcaraz’s issues with the Singles scheduling were echoed by his Laver Cup doubles opponent Fritz, who claimed: “No matter how much I try to shorten my calendar, it’s still going to be a lot.
“It’s really tough,” Fritz continued, on The Big T Podcast. “You need to play mandatory ATP 500s and 1000s. If you want to miss the mandatory 1000s and take the penalties for not playing the 500s, I’d say you’re putting yourself at a serious disadvantage.
“My schedule is long, but I’m only playing my mandatory 500s and 1000s, and then two or three 250s throughout the year. It’s very tough to shorten it, to be honest,” the American concluded.
