Carlos Alcaraz stunned his opponent Sebastian Baez at the Monte-Carlo Masters with a 114 mph forehand as the Spaniard cruised to victory in straight sets.

The world number one was in fine form, as he began the tournament in Monaco with a 6-1, 6-3, win over the 65th ranked Argentinian.

Alcaraz crashed out of the Miami Masters at the round-of-32, so the Spaniard will be hoping to go all the way in Monte-Carlo as the clay season ramps up.

During the match, the 22-year-old hit a staggering 114 mph forehand winner, which left his opponent completely rooted to the clay.

Alcaraz' incredible power is one of the many attributes he possesses which sets him apart from the rest, and fans online were blown away by the unstoppable shot.

"What a missile!! Simply amazing," one fan wrote on social media.

Another added: "didn't see the ball."

"God I love watching him on clay," a third posted.

Alcaraz is yet to find out his opponent in the next round, but will be back on the Monaco clay at 10am BST on Thursday.

Alcaraz admits he will lose world number one

Despite his fine performance, Alcaraz has admitted that he can do nothing about Jannik Sinner taking his title of world number one, claiming it is 'when', not 'if'.

“To be honest, I’m going to lose the number one of the world,” he said after his win.

“I don’t know if it’s going to be in this tournament or in the next one."

Heading into the clay season, just 1,190 points separate the two rivals, but Sinner maintains that advantage in the fight for the no.1 ranking because he didn't compete in Monte-Carlo last year.

“I defend a bunch of points that are going to be really difficult to defend all.

“Even if I defend them, Jannik is going to add some points in these tournaments and he doesn’t have to defend any points in this tournament.

“So I will try to play my best, and let’s see what happens.”

“For me, the number one of the sport is not in my mind right now,” he added.

“I’m just trying to feel the best way, or as good as I can on the clay court, and let’s see how it’s going to be on the clay swing.”
