Ronnie O'Sullivan Trains in Totally Different Sport as Impressive Footage Emerges

Some sportspeople are just good at everything and snooker icon O'Sullivan is one of them

Ronnie O'Sullivan is widely regarded as the greatest snooker player of all time but he's been known to dabble in other sports too.

O'Sullivan is a passionate runner and a noted enthusiast of American pool, a sport at which he is unsurprisingly excellent.

The seven-time World Snooker Champion has become fitness-conscious in his forties and lost a significant amount of weight after putting his running shoes on in lockdown.

In 2017, he travelled to the United States to make a documentary series about pool with television presenter and close friend Matt Smith.

With snooker and running mastered and a game of pool against Earl 'The Pearl' Strickland under his belt, O'Sullivan has turned his attention to a different sport altogether.

Now 49, O'Sullivan has been enjoying some time in the boxing ring.

"[O'Sullivan] has also thrown weightlifting into his fitness routine over the last few years," reports The Sun.

"But he's seemingly also mixing things up with gruelling boxing workouts.

"On Tuesday, O'Sullivan shared a video of himself hitting the heavy bag and pads with a trainer at the Avona Boxing Club on his Instagram."

Boxing and its associated training are recognised as one of the best recreational sports for fitness, offering a thorough full-body workout and helping to build muscle in the arms, legs, back and shoulders.

The nature of boxing's high-intensity training makes it a great way to promote heart health and O'Sullivan is one of the many elite snooker professionals to have spoken about the importance of health and physical fitness even in a sport that emerged in smoky clubs and pubs.

O'Sullivan has already hit the headlines in the new snooker season, adding a new record to his famed 147 collection at the Saudi Arabia Masters in August.

He knocked in two maximum breaks in one semi-final against Chris Wakelin and is now the oldest player to achieve a 147 break, as well as the fastest and most prolific.

Will Ronnie O'Sullivan win an eighth world title?

Whenever O'Sullivan finds some form on the baize, the prospect of an eighth World Championship comes back into focus.

O'Sullivan and Stephen Hendry have each won the World Snooker Championship at the Crucible on seven occasions and O'Sullivan, when he's on it, still has enough quality to be considered a contender to lead outright.

In 2025, he arrived in Sheffield at the end of a season in which he'd played relatively little snooker and struggled to get his true game going despite decent progress through the rounds.

But the 23-time Triple Crown champion is imperious at his best and has shown signs in the new season that he might not be done with the majors just yet.
