A France international and his Clermont teammate were in police custody overnight from Friday after being involved in a fight.
Regis Montagne and his teammate Lucas Tauzin were the pair that spent the night in custody after they injured a man in a fight in the Auvergne city.
Montagne has made seven appearances for the French international side and was part of the squad that won the 2026 Six Nations Championship in March; meanwhile, Tauzin has also represented his nation at international level, but this was for the Under-20s.
The pair were released after one day, as they reportedly acted in self-defence and were released without charge for the time being.

Evidence from the night, as reported in L’Equipe, showed that the international prop and the Tauzin had been attacked by the same man while they were together in town while out with their respective partners.

There have been no charges for the two men, again confirmed by the French publication, while they also confirmed with Clermont Auvergne that these were the players involved in the incident, with this incident being first reported in Le Parisien.
Montagne was first called to the France senior team in the summer of 2025 for the New Zealand tour and featured in two of the Six Nations games this year for Les Bleus.
The 25-year-old will be hoping for further international caps with France, as he has become an important option for the nation since the heartbreaking retirement of Unai Atonio, who was forced to retire from rugby immediately ahead of the Six Nations due to a heart attack.
Tauzin has had a glittering underage career and was even part of the 2024 Champions Cup-winning squad for Toulouse, and there will be hopes for the 27-year-old that he could eventually earn an international cap.
Clermont have enjoyed a two-week break from club rugby as they were not involved in either European competition and now will be aiming to carry on their fine Top 14 campaign this season.
The French club will be hopeful that this is the last they will be hearing of this incident, as they will want the pair available for the remainder of the season as they aim to be involved in the playoffs for the Top 14 title as they currently sit sixth in the league.
