France are set to host Italy this weekend in the Six Nations, with Fabien Galthie’s side the only team still able to be crowned Grand Slam champions in March.
Les Bleus have already made easy work of both Ireland and Wales this year, but they are not going to take the Azzurri for granted after their fine start.
Despite a convincing 73-24 victory over Gonzalo Quesada’s side last year, France will be fully aware that if they are not at their best, they could suffer defeat.
While not a loss, the 13-13 draw two years ago in Lille was a let-off for Galthie’s side. Italy were unjustly not allowed to retake a penalty, which Paolo Garbisi missed with the final kick of the game, after encroaching by France.

Speaking to L’Equipe ahead of this Giuseppe Garibaldi Trophy, which France last lost in 2013, François Cros noted the team have left nothing to chance so they keep their Grand Slam hopes alive.

He said: “A lot has happened since that match, but I think it's good to learn from past matches, to see how we played them, how we approached them, and what we might have missed sometimes.
“The Italians are coming in with a lot of confidence and a strong set piece. It's up to us to rise to the occasion. We fear and respect all our opponents. Even though we're focusing a lot on ourselves, on our style of play, and trying to improve in every area we can control, the opponent is obviously important.
“The Italians have been getting stronger for several years now, and we're wary of them.”
Italy fully focused on the French task
The Italians were disappointed with their defeat to Ireland in Dublin last weekend after their impressive performance caused Andy Farrell’s side all sorts of problems.
However, they have put that behind them and are aiming to return to Lille, where they drew last time against France, to end their rivals' Grand Slam hopes and keep them in the battle for the championship.
Speaking ahead of the clash, Danilo Fischetti said: “France is one of the best teams in the world; it's clear to everyone. They have great individual qualities and play a high-level game. Where do we stand in the standings?
“I dream of finishing as high as possible, but we always take it game by game.”
