'Biggest' money pool match in history ruined by beer thrown before £180,000 shot can be taken

The tense pool match was at 29 frames each when a bottle of beer was thrown onto the table from a fan in the crowd.

The world's richest ever pool match was ruined by a fan who through a bottle of beer onto the table ahead of the deciding shot.

In recent months some people have become extremely annoyed by the Just Stop Oil protests at a number of major sporting events.

One such time was at the World Snooker Championships earlier this year when orange powder was thrown all over the table during Mark Allen and Fan Zhengyi's match at the Crucible theatre.

It was only during one of the earlier rounds and it was mid-match so it didn't make too much of a problem for the two players.

However Shaun Storry and Ian Ali weren't as lucky when their pool match was interrupted in similar but extremely different circumstances.

The pair were playing for £180,000 in the biggest pool match in history at the Legends Sports Bar in Braintree on Saturday night.

In a first to 30 match the pair were locked at 29-29 when Storry had a chance for victory, only for a fan to throw a bottle of beer onto the table, as you can see below.

Storry had looked to be cruising to victory at 17-11 ahead but Ali had managed to bring it back to level pegging and take it to a decider.

The man who had been ahead for so long then got himself onto the black whilst his opponent still had a couple of balls left on the table.

He lifted his arm in the air and gave it a little fist pump as he set up a wholly puttable shot on the black and the chance at an incredible amount of money.

As he stared down the shot and chalked his cue to make sure it wasn't an issue on the decisive shot, a bottle of beer flew through the air, clattered onto the table and moved the white ball.

The player was visibly and understandably annoyed as he headed back to his seat, with the referee being heard to say: "What did you do that for?"

Even snooker star Mark Selby, who became the first player to score a maximum 147 break in a world final earlier this year, wanted to know who'd won.

He took to Twitter to ask the question but no one could answer him for certain with different reports going around about the winner.

Some suggested that Storry had been awarded the win whilst others claimed there was a disagreement about a potential re-rack.
