Great Britain enjoyed a highly successful Paris Olympic Games, but the price paid for every medal is shocking.

The 2024 Olympic Games finished on Sunday after over two weeks of the most talented athletes in the world competing for the prized Olympic medals.

Team GB finished won 65 medals in Paris, 14 gold, 22 silver and 29 bronze, achieving the goal set before the Games of 50 to 70 medals.

But new reports have emerged revealing just how much each of those medals cost Team GB, and the number may shock you.

UK Sport invested £245,837,685 in the Paris Olympics campaign, meaning that each medal averaged a cost of £3,782,118.

The most expensive medal, was Lewis Richardson's bronze medal in the men's 71kg boxing event, which was the only medal that Team GB won in boxing despite receiving £12million in funding.

Six boxers represented Great Britain in Paris, but Richardson was the only one to win a medal after many fans believed athletes such as Delicious Orie and Rosie Eccles were robbed by Olympic judges.

Decisions made by judges at the Paris Olympics, combined with several other controversies, mean that the sport may be omitted from the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Of all of the sports that Team GB competed in, cycling received the highest investment, costing £29.3 million, meaning that their 11 medals cost an average of £2.7 million each.

Rowing (£23.8 million), sailing (£22.8 million) and athletics (£22.8 million) followed in the list of sports to receive the most funding.

The team won eight medals in rowing, two in sailing and an impressive 10 in athletics.

The cheapest medal won by Team GB was Tommy Fleetwood's silver medal in the men's golf event, as golf does not receive any funding ahead of the Olympic Games.

The shocking prices of the medals come after some athletes have complained about the quality of their winnings.

American Nyjah Huston who took home the bronze medal complained about his medal, saying on social media: "These Olympic medals look great when they are brand new but after letting it sit on my skin with some sweat and letting friends wear it over the weekend, they are apparently not as high quality as you would think,"

"Even the front is starting to chip off a little. Olympic medals - maybe got to step up the quality a little bit."
