Wilfried Bony's loan at Stoke City could end prematurely in January.

Stoke were well aware that they could lose Bony for around two months if he was selected for Ivory Coast's African Cup Of Nations squad, but it seems they could actually lose him permanently when January rolls around.

That's because according to John Percy from The Telegraph, Manchester City inserted a clause in Bony's contract which means that any mega rich Chinese Super League club are able to purchase him when their transfer window reopens.

Bony was clearly not part of Pep Guardiola's plans and was sent out on loan to Mark Hughes' Stoke on deadline day, with the two clubs both paying part of the 27-year old's reported £125,000 a week salary.

And though he signed on for the season, Stoke could see his loan cut short if a Chinese side do come in for him in their transfer window, which lasts longer than the standard one month window in England.

Mark Hughes believes Bony will remain with the club.

However, City want Bony off the books and will no doubt be hoping that a Chinese side see the same sort of value in Bony as many sides over there have seen in the likes of Ezequiel Lavezzi, Ramires, Alex Txeira, Graziano Pelle, Hulk and Bony's Ivorian colleague Gervinho, who all made big money moves to China.

Should a move to China come about, Stoke would have to look elsewhere for a striker. Saido Berahino was heavily linked with the Potters in the summer.
