Michael van Gerwen is the highest-paid darts player of all time ahead of the legendary Phil Taylor and 2022 PDC World Darts Championship winner Peter Wright.

The 32-year-old Dutch star, who is ranked No 3 in the world, has won the World Darts Championship three times in his remarkable career.

Van Gerwen was initially scheduled to face Chris Dobey in a third-round match at the 2022 World Darts Championship.

However, the three-time world champion was forced to withdraw from the tournament after he tested positive for coronavirus.

The Daily Star has now compiled the highest-earning darts players of all time, with Van Gerwen coming out on top of the star-studded list.

Mighty Mike, who was world No 1 from 2014 to 2021, is considered the richest darts player thanks to his hefty £8.5m earnings.

Taylor, 61, won a record 16 world titles -- two with the BDO and 14 with the PDC -- in his illustrious playing career.

The Stoke-on-Trent native called it time on his professional darts career after his defeat to Rob Cross at the 2018 PDC World Darts Championship.

Gerwyn Price secured his first PDC World Championship title in 2021 after beating Gary Anderson 7-3 in the final at the Alexandra Palace in London.

The 36-year-old Welshman, who is the No 1 darts player in the world, came eighth in the best-paid players with his £2.2m earnings.

Price failed to defend his championship status at the 2022 PDC World Championship, with Wright beating Michael Smith to capture his second PDC title.
