People say they have 'more energy' after swapping their morning coffee for a little-known mushroom drink that's legal in the UK.

The drink is designed to mimic the taste and energy-boosting properties of coffee, without the 'jitters or crashes' it's known for.

According to the website, it's on hand to support mental clarity, nervous system health, and energy metabolism - and the five-star reviews say it all.

"Smooth, rich flavour with zero jitters, and the mental clarity boost is real," one glowing review reads. "I feel more focused and energised without the crash. It’s become a must-have in my morning routine."

“From the very first week, I noticed a much better focus and, thankfully, no more jitters or crashes like I experienced before,” another added. “It’s been two years now, and I honestly haven’t looked back.”

A third shared: “This has been a godsend for me, I stopped drinking coffee for a while as my nervous system couldn't handle the crash after the high.

"But now, I can go back to getting all of the benefits of the goodness of the antioxidants in coffee mixed with the benefits of lion's mane at the same time.”

How does mushroom coffee work?

Traditional coffee may taste good, but everyone knows it can lead to the dreaded 3pm crash. This is because your brain can mistake the caffeine crash for an energy emergency, therefore it releases adrenaline, which is where the jitters come in.

Lion’s mane on the other hand is an adaptogen, which helps to regulate and balance energy levels, to prevent crashing. For some customers, this has helped to reduce the symptoms of anxiety that can be heightened with your usual cup of coffee.

Dr Suzanne Wylie, GP and medical adviser for IQdoctor, told SPORTbible that while the efficacy of medicinal mushrooms like lion's mane is 'limited', the reduced side effects like jitteriness and crashes is likely down to the lower caffeine content.

What is the mushroom coffee everyone is raving about?

We’re talking about this Mushroom Coffee, of course. Fortified with lion’s mane and vitamin B complex, it’s allegedly designed to ‘boost focus and increase productivity’.

Most importantly, customers say it ‘tastes great’, and is described as having a ‘rich, nutty flavour’ by the brand. To use it, all you need to do is scoop 2.5g worth mushroom coffee into a cup, then add 100ml of hot water. Then, froth 150ml of the milk of your choice, stir, and enjoy.

*Make sure to always consult a healthcare provider before introducing new supplements or functional foods into your routine, especially if you have underlying health conditions or are taking other medications.
