The mother of a young American football player injured during a junior varsity match between two high schools in a shocking moment has spoken out.

During a a junior varsity football game between Lakeshore High School and Kalamazoo Central High School in Michigan on Thursday evening, a high school player suffered a devastating injury

The shocking incident, which was captured in a video that has now gone viral online, showed a 15-year-old boy playing for Lakeshore being blocked by an opponent much bigger than him.

As the boy fell to the ground, his opponent decided to jumped on him, ultimately causing a severe injury that left him hospitalised.

And now, the mother of the young player injured in the horrific moment has spoken out to share her thoughts on the incident.

Courtney Mims was watching her son play in the sporting fixture when the injury, which could have a serious impact on his future playing career, occurred.

Speaking to WSBT-TV, she said: "I at first was like, is that my son? And as soon as it clicked that it was, I couldn't be stopped. I had to go down there. It was I've never felt anything like it. I've never been as upset or shaken up as I was over something for my son.

"He's out at least for this season. We don't know if he's going to be able to play again. He should and will make a full recovery."

However, Mims is hoping that high school football players will see this as a learning experience.

"These boys are high school boys. They're 15 years old. The game means a lot to them. It's their whole life right now.

"They're there from before I get up to go to work in the morning till after dinner, putting in the work and for somebody to try to take that from somebody doing so much is awful for me to see."

As per the Daily Mail, the Michigan High School Athletic Association did not punish the student and it will be up to the two schools to discuss the resolution.
