NBA legend Steph Curry is set miss out on a huge amount of money after a 'lifetime' contract he signed just two years ago was terminated.

Curry has established himself as one of the greatest basketball players in history, winning four championships with the Golden State Warriors.

The 37-year-old has been the highest paid player in the league since 2017, and that has continued this season, with Curry set to earn around $59.6 million.

According to Spotrac, Curry ranks third on the NBA's all-time career earners list, sitting just behind Kevin Durant and LeBron James.

The Warriors star has also been hugely successful away from the court, with several lucrative endorsements, including his deal with American sportswear giant Under Amour.

Curry first signed with Under Armour in 2013, before launching the Curry Brand in 2020.

Just two years ago, they agreed a new long-term contract that was set to run into Curry's retirement and was reportedly worth over $1 billion.

According to CNBC, part of that extension included 8.8 million Under Armour common shares, valued at $75 million at the time.

In a shock move on Thursday, Curry and Under Armour announced they had ended their agreement prematurely.

Despite that, the UA Curry 13 shoe is still expected to be released as planned in February 2026.

Curry said: "Under Armour believed in me early in my career and gave me the space to build something much bigger and more impactful than a shoe.

"I'll always be grateful for that.

"Curry Brand was created to change the game for good and over the past five years, we successfully changed the game for kids, for communities, and for basketball.

"What Curry Brand stands for, what I stand for and my commitment to that mission will never change, it's only growing stronger.

"I'm excited for a future that's focused on aggressive growth with a continued commitment to keep showing up for the next generation."

Curry is now free to sign with any trainer brand in the world.

Before joining Under Armour in 2013, he was a Nike athlete.

Back then, the stronger financial offer from UA, combined with the promise of his own signature sneaker, were enough to secure Curry.

The Warriors star still appears to align well with Nike's ethos, but it remains to be seen whether the breakdown in talks more than a decade ago will leave any lingering issues.

Disruptor brands On and Hoka have also been linked, and both may view the chance to sign a basketball icon as too big an opportunity to ignore.
