IShowSpeed Shatters World Record As NBA Legend Left Stunned

The American streamer broke a basketball record

IShowSpeed has demonstrated his speed by breaking a basketball sprint record, leaving a two-time NBA champion in shock.

The American streamer, whose real name is Darren Jason Watkins Jr, is one of the most well-known social media stars in the world.

He first rose to popularity by streaming himself playing video games, such as FIFA and NBA 2K, but he has continued to rise in prominence in mainstream culture.

IShowSpeed recently raced Olympic champion Noah Lyles in a video posted by YouTuber MrBeast.

Speed made a quick start in the 50m race, but Lyles came through to defeat him and was even able to ease off towards the end.

However, the race proved that Speed has elite acceleration out of the blocks.

He has now proven that by breaking the world record in the 3/4 sprint, a speed test covering three-quarters of a basketball court.

In a video posted on X, Speed can be seen completing the sprint with NBA star Kevin Durant in attendance, clocking an astonishing world record time of 2.805 seconds.

That time broke the previous record set by Sacramento Kings star Devin Carter in 2024, who ran 2.87 seconds.

Before Carter, the record had stood since 2001 and was held by Cookie Belcher, who clocked 2.91 seconds.

After learning he had set the new record, Speed shouted: "I did it.

"That's the world record, hell yeah.

"I officially hold the combined NBA world record, man! I am the fastest in the league man."

Durant, who was hugely impressed, added: "I think he is an athletic freak that needs to be put in positions to reach his full potential."

The Houston Rockets star continued to praise IShowSpeed during a post-game interview.

"Speed is just an athlete man, he can do it all," said the two-time NBA champion.

"I've built a solid relationship with him dating back two years, we did a podcast together, we did a commercial together, so this is our third thing.

"Streamers and guys creating content every day, that's a tough, tough job, I've really got respect for what Speed brings to the culture.

"I want to try and get him out to a Rockets game for sure.

"But Speed is fast, he's more of a football player than me, but he's an athlete."

Fans of IShowSpeed will now be waiting to see if he can break any other sprinting records.

In the NFL, the 40-yard dash is considered the main test of acceleration.

That record is currently held by Xavier Worthy, who ran a time of 4.22 seconds last year, breaking John Ross's mark.
