Steph Curry told he must do two things before he can rival Michael Jordan and LeBron James for title of NBA GOAT

The Golden State Warriors' point guard is often part of the GOAT debate, but a former NBA player thinks he needs to do two things.

A former NBA star has explained the two things Steph Curry must do to enter the greatest of all time (GOAT) conversation.

Curry, 37, is one of the most revered NBA stars in the modern-day game, with some fans even naming him as the GOAT, although most opt for Michael Jordan, LeBron James or Kobe Bryant.

Of course, Jordan boasts six NBA crowns from his time at the Chicago Bulls in the 1990s, and Bryant won five championships during his time playing for the LA Lakers, while James currently boasts four NBA rings from triumphs with the Lakers, Miami Heat and Cleveland Cavaliers.

Curry won the 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2022 NBA titles with the Golden State Warriors and will look to secure a fifth crown this season with his side set to compete in the conference semi-finals against the Minnesota Timberwolves on May 7.

And former NBA star turned-NBA analyst Kendrick Perkins has named the two things Curry must do to enter the GOAT conversation.

"Steph Curry is one championship away and one Finals MVP away from entering the GOAT conversation,” Perkins told ESPN’s Get Up on Sunday (May 5).

“Real talk. He's one championship and one Finals MVP away from entering the GOAT conversation. And I would dare somebody to try to argue or make me seem like I'm saying something ridiculous."

"What he has done for the game, he has changed the game forever, forever," he added. "He's given life to all the guys that are under 6'3", right? Not just because of his shooting ability, but because of what he brings to the table night in and night out on a day-to-day basis as a true professional.

"And now he's getting it done on both ends of the floor. Well, he's been getting it done on both ends of the floor because in his fourth championship against the Boston Celtics, they were trying to pick on him. And I thought that's when he levelled up and took it to the next level defensively."

Steph Curry on NBA GOAT debate

So, where does Curry rank himself among NBA's greatest players?

"I ascribe to the mindset that there are multiple GOATs," he told Willie Geist on Today in 2023.

"And I hate that, it's not a cop-out answer, but it's so hard to compare eras."

He added: "And getting into that conversation of 'oh if you put Michael in this era or if you put LeBron in that era,' it's kind of unfair. It's a great barbershop debate, and it's something that'll never stop until the end of time."
