Angel Reese has fired back at ‘fake news’ as the WNBA pay gap row rumbles on.
Reese was incorrectly quoted as saying: ‘Y’all make $1400 a week, I make $1400 in seven days’. SB Nation WNBA correspondent Noa Dalzell was quick to debunk what Reese is reported to have said.
“This post has 111K likes on Instagram, and there’s no record Angel Reese ever said this. Misinformation/fake news is just getting so insane,” Dalzell said on her X, formerly Twitter, account.
“I don’t even know how you combat this.”

The post was shared on Instagram, which Reese was quick to debunk, commenting on the post in question: “I never said this. Y'all make up anything.”
Reese has been at the centre of basketball’s gender pay dispute alongside fellow WNBA superstar Caitlin Clark, with the 23-year-old previously claiming her salary ‘couldn’t cover her bills’.

Rapper Ice Cube has also previously taken a pop at Reese after snubbing her for a place in the BIG3 basketball league due to a lack of financial benefits.

“[Reese] is a great player. The thing about Caitlin Clark was that [it would bring] millions of dollars for the league because of her stardom. That’s what our sponsors were telling us,” Ice Cube said.
“They didn't tell us the same thing about Angel Reese. I don't know if we can make that same offer because it won’t have the same impact on the league. It was nothing personal.”
WNBA star a target for criticism
Reese has cut a divisive figure in the WNBA, with the iconic Candace Parker another to recently take a shot at the Chicago Sky star.

Parker insisted she was 'not a hater' before appearing to list players she would take over Reese.
Reese quickly responded to Parker’s dig, putting on her official X account: “Clout is one helluva DRUG. like it really gets to a point.”
Chicago Sky took on the Phoenix Mercury on Monday, ultimately losing 83-67 before they take on the Washington Mystics this week.
