A pair of professional heavyweight fighters have taken part in a chaotic cage fight against 10 amateurs, as footage of the bout goes viral.

MMA is often chaotic by its nature, with several fighting disciplines coming together meaning the action can constantly change.

However, it is far rarer for two heavyweight fighters to join forces and take on up to 10 amateur fighters in the cage.

But that is exactly what unfolded at Real Xtreme Fighting, the largest MMA promotion company based in Romania.

In footage that has circulated on social media, two heavyweight fighters wearing yellow shorts can be seen taking on 10 amateurs wearing blue.

The heavyweights start the fight up against the side of the cage, before one of them goes on the offensive with a flurry of punches.

That set the fight in motion, with the other heavyweight then moving away from the fence to launch his own attack.

In crazy scenes, he can be seen battling to hold off several amateur fighters.

He is soon joined by his heavyweight teammate and the pair continue to throw punches in all directions as the amateurs keep pressing forward.

The professional fighters are temporarily separated, leaving each to take on smaller, separate groups.

But they quickly regroup and continue to back each other up whenever one of them is pushed back.

After about a minute, the referee steps in and brings the contest to a close.

The heavyweight fighters then have their arms lifted into the air - signalling they are the winners.

However, the action was so chaotic and filled with punches that it is difficult to see how the referee was able to determine a winner.

The clip has since circulated on social media, with MMA fans quick to joke about the fighting.

One fan wrote: "Not a single running Superman punch or flying knee from the blind side?

"Not even using the numbers to their advantage."

Another added: "How long before we go back to putting a man with a sword in a cage with a lion?"

Other fans argued that the heavyweights would have lost if they had faced stronger or more athletic amateur fighters.

"They found the skinniest and most unathletic dudes for this fight," one user said.

"Had they gotten 10 amateurs in shape, the heavyweights would've lost.

Some fans even suggested it would be entertaining if the UFC staged a similar fight with high-profile names.

One fan joked: "I need to see Tom Aspinall and Derrick Lewis take on 50 amateurs next."
