Conor McGregor has issued a message to Paddy Pimblett after he was booked in his first UFC championship bout.

Pimblett hasn't fought since his career-best win over Michael Chandler at UFC 314 in April.

He submitted Chandler to secure not only the biggest win of his budding career but also a statement win in the UFC lightweight division.

'The Baddy' had hoped to return at UFC 321 in October, but an assignment failed to come to fruition.

But he is set to return to action in the new year in a blockbuster clash.

On Thursday, Dana White announced a series of fights, including an interim UFC lightweight title showdown between Pimblett and Justin Gaethje.

Gaethje vs. Pimblett will headline UFC 324 on January 24 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

UFC 324 will kick-off the promotion's new media rights deal with Paramount, having struck a whopping $7.7 billion deal.

The announcement sent shockwaves through the sport, with McGregor weighing in on social media.

On X, he threw his support behind Pimblett, writing: "Come on Paddy!"

The Liverpool fighter will be aiming to replicate the same achievement McGregor achieved in his UFC career by winning an interim UFC title.

McGregor claimed the interim UFC featherweight title following his victory over Chad Mendes in 2015.

Pimblett has drawn comparisons with the Irishman given his similar ascent to UFC superstardom.

A fight between the two UFC stars has been mooted and it's a match Pimblett would accept if it was offered.

Speaking to SPORTbible on behalf of casino.org in June, the 30-year-old said: “I don't think McGregor's coming back.

"I want to be the champion before anything. Anyone who says they wouldn't take a fight with him, though, is a liar. He's the biggest name in the sport, and it's going to get you more money than fighting anyone else.

"If the fight ever came to fruition, I think we all know I'm taking it.

"That being said, I think we all know for now that he's not fighting for a long time; it's one of those."

Pimblett has won seven fights in a row since joining the UFC from Cage Warriors, including victories over the aforementioned Chandler, Tony Ferguson and King Green.

As for Gaethje, he hasn't fought since his unanimous decision victory over Rafael Fiziev in March.
