Jon Jones has angered UFC fans with his now-deleted social media post seemingly about rival Tom Aspinall.

A UFC heavyweight undisputed showdown between champion Jones and interim title holder Aspinall remains in the works.

'Bones' returned to the Octagon last November when he stopped Stipe Miocic to defend his UFC heavyweight title in New York City, while Aspinall defended his interim title against Curtis Blaydes in Manchester last summer.

The American legend appears to be stalling as the superstar Brit waits for a shot at undisputed UFC glory.

Despite Dana White's huge update, Jones vs. Aspinall has still yet to be made official.

Aspinall held a meeting with the UFC brass over his next fight at last month's UFC London event, claiming he's 'very optimistic'.

He told Ariel Helwani: "After the meeting, I’m feeling very optimistic about things. I’m in a really, really good spot with everything and my future moving forward. I think it’s exciting times, man. Really exciting times.

"The break [waiting for Jones' decision], it’s not a massive break, to be honest. People are saying, 'Oh, Jon Jones is holding up your career', and stuff. It’s only been seven months. It’s not too bad. I don’t want to say too much, but exciting stuff is in the future, for sure."

Jones has remained fairly tight-lipped over the fight situation until his post on social media, which has since been deleted.

"The guy who was known for calling out Jon Jones, and didn't end up being great at all," he wrote on X, before removing his post online.

His social media activity didn't go down well among UFC fans as they hit out at his 'weird' stunt.

One X user wrote: "Ducking Aspinall is a weird flex."

A second said: "Ruining his legacy."

A third added: "What a weirdo just fight tom or retire."

Another commented: "Weekly reminder that Jones will never fight Aspinall."

Jones, 37, has only fought twice since February 2020. He beat Ciryl Gane to win the vacant UFC heavyweight championship before defending his title against Miocic.

As for Aspinall, the 32-year-old has won three fights in a row since his freak defeat to Blaydes in July 2022.

He stopped Marcin Tybura then claimed the interim UFC heavyweight title against Sergei Pavlovich, before exacting revenge against Blaydes in his first title defence.
