Conor McGregor has gone viral on social media after footage of the UFC superstar playing football emerged online.

McGregor, 36, is one of the biggest names to ever come out of MMA having held UFC titles in both featherweight and lightweight divisions.

Last time out, the Irishman lost to Dustin Poirier in July 2021. Since then, there have been multiple rumours of a return but nothing has materialised just yet.

Last year, McGregor was meant to take on Michael Chandler in June but later had to pull out due to a suspected broken toe.

On Saturday, footage emerged on social media which captured the 36-year-old swapping the Octagon for the football pitch.

McGregor had earlier posted a picture of his football boots on social media, with a caption that read: "Today we ball."

In the videos found on various social media platforms, McGregor was seen wearing a number 11 shirt and was filmed flying into a strong challenge against his opponent.

Reacting on social media, one fan said: "Imagine getting halved in a challenge and you look up and it’s Conor McGregor."

Another tweeted: "Why am I not surprised Conor is tackling like that."

A third fan added: "Can see why he picked up fighting."

In another clip, one of the opposition players was heard referring to McGregor as the 'number 11'.

Another fan commented: "Fellas saying “I got 11” as if he doesn’t know who he is."

Someone wrote: "I got number 11 yanno, the disrespect is real out here."

Recently, McGregor revealed plans to buy not one, but two football teams after news of Elon Musk's apparent interest in buying Premier League giants Liverpool emerged.

He wrote on his Instagram story: "How much is it to buy a League of Ireland team? I might buy two."

The Irishman also recently hinted at a potential return to the Octagon this year.

He wrote: "The rumours of a bout with topurio are false. I am in preliminary agreements with the Ambani family to face Logan Paul in a boxing exhibition in India. I have agreed. I will then seek my return to the Octagon."
