Khabib Nurmagomedov responds to Georges St-Pierre after he claimed he would have won UFC super-fight

Khabib Nurmagomedov has responded to Georges St-Pierre claiming he would have 'put him down' in a potential UFC clash.

Nurmagomedov held a stranglehold on the UFC lightweight title while St-Pierre reigned over the UFC welterweight division.

A UFC super-fight between St-Pierre and Nurmagomedov was mooted but failed to come to fruition.

Had Dana White pitted the UFC legends against each other, then fans would have been treated to one of the biggest fights in the promotion's history.

However, St-Pierre vs. Nurmagomedov was never made under the UFC banner.

But the Canadian legend fancied his chances against the Dagestan star, who walked away from the sport following his victory over Justin Gaethje at UFC 254 back in October 2020.

He reckons he would have 'put him down' as he revealed his strategy for a hypothetical fight with 'The Eagle'.

"I think Khabib could have beat me, I’m not saying I could have beat Khabib all the time," he said. I was confident enough to take that fight that I was thinking that if I take that fight I’m going to beat him that day at that particular place, that doesn’t mean I will beat him all the time. But I was confident, maybe I’m wrong. I think I would have beat him because if he would have come to put pressure on me, I would have put him down. I would have had the confidence to try to go for it...

"So, my strategy if I would have gone against Khabib would have been to keep the fight as much as I can in the middle and not be afraid to go to take him down. I think that I would have maybe been the first guy that he fought or one of the only guys that would have tried to put him down, and I’ve put down everybody that I’ve fought."

Nurmagomedov, who retired with a perfect 29-0 professional record, caught wind of the comments made by 'GSP' as he issued a classy response.

"I learn from this guy a lot. Even hear he talk about me is so interesting. GSP all day," he said.

St-Pierre vs. Nurmagomedov would have been a blockbuster collision, but unfortunately it will always be a fantasy MMA match-up.
