Netflix have announced they will be raising prices for subscribers across the United States ahead of their flagship MMA event.

The streaming giant have entered the world of mixed-martials-arts with a blockbuster event in partnership with Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions.

Former UFC champion Ronda Rousey will come out of retirement to face fellow women’s MMA pioneer Gina Carano on May 16.

Netflix have previously aired huge boxing events such as Paul vs Mike Tyson and Anthony Joshua as well as the huge showdown between Terence Crawford and Canelo Alvarez.

Ahead of Rousey’s comeback fight, Netflix have announced an increase in subscription prices in the United States. The United Kingdom prices are currently not impacted.

The standard with advertisements subscription, jumped from $7.99 to $8.99 per month.

The standard plan with no ads increased from $17.99 to $19.99 per month.

The premium plan jumps from $24.99 to $26.99 per month.

Netflix told TechCrunch that the changes are designed to reflect improvements to its “wide range of entertainment” and the quality of its service.

Subscribers will be notified one month before the change during the gradual rollout and will be given the opportunity to end their subscription if they do not agree to the new rates.

Sporting events such as Rousey vs Carano will not cost extra for subscribers and will feature advertisements no matter what plan users are currently signed up for.

The fight card also features former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou as well as an exciting clash between Nate Diaz and Mike Perry.

Rousey, who hasn’t fought in MMA losing to Amanda Nunes at UFC 207 in December 2016, claimed she originally approached the UFC for her comeback fight before penning a deal with MVP and Netflix.

She said: "I reached out to Dana and asked if he would be interested in it. It didn’t exactly work out with the UFC, but it led us here today.”

Netflix boasts over 325 million subscribers worldwide offering fighters the biggest global audience to showcase their talents.
