Conor McGregor restarts feud with Khabib with shots at his late father after Makhachev’s UFC 280 title win

Conor McGregor fired some shots at Khabib Nurmagomedov's late father after the latter's long-time training partner Islam Makhachev followed his path to glory by claiming the 155lb lightweight title at UFC 280.

The 31-year-old Dagestani fighter won by a brutal submission of ex-champion Charles Oliveira in the second round.

Among eager observers of the fight was none other than former two-division champion Conor McGregor, who made a reference to Khabib Nurmagomedov's late father, also Islam Makhachev's old head coach, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, following the result.

The Irishman said: "I have the system to hurt this style of fighting, guys, I'm telling you.

"Bro is a s**t jocks. Fat mouth, shut your mouth. You done nothing tonight except git against father's wishes and run."

Makhachev stated in his post-fight interview that this was all in Abdulmanap's plan, that he could claim the lightweight throne after Khabib, to which McGregor responded: "It's not father's plan completed yet, pal. You know. Your people know and they talk about you."

MMA tycoon McGregor was highly impressed by the dominant display Makhachev showed in the title fight though: "Nice fight, nice performance. I have built all the tools to beat this style now vs B4.

"Experience vs s**t. Face-breaking shots from the clinch and baby-brain batter shots from the bottom.

"And the rest of my repertoire yous now. Steel left leg. Cannon back hand. Wrist control."

The 34-year-old McGregor has been recovering from a broken leg and so doesn't look close to fighting Makhachev anytime soon, though some recently released sparring footage has hyped up UFC fans for the mere prospect of a fight.

The Irishman is cherishing the idea too, saying: "The thought of shutting down this system of fighting with my own developed systems is quite intriguing to me.

"Whoever of them against. It's not personal, it's a skill evaluation and a fight. Even through generations.

"The IMAAFS, amateurs. A war of attrition. To the box."

McGregor hasn't stepped into the Octagon since the horrific leg break in his trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier last summer, though it is highly anticipated that he makes his UFC return in 2023.
