Three UFC fighters have been removed from the roster just days ahead of this weekend's stacked card in New York City.

The MMA leaders return to the iconic Madison Square Garden for the blockbuster UFC 322 - headlined by the welterweight championship showdown between Jack Della Maddalena and Islam Makhachev.

In the co-main event, UFC women's flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko defends her title against Zhang Weili in a bout pitting the top two women fighters in the sport.

A mini welterweight tournament also takes place on the main-card, with Sean Brady vs. Michael Morales and Leon Edwards vs. Carlos Prates on deck.

Ahead of UFC 322, Dana White has trimmed the roster by cutting not one but three fighters, including a big fan favourite.

Chris Barnett has been released following his four-and-a-half-year spell in the UFC, having pleased fans with his entertaining style.

He went 2-4 in the UFC and leaves the promotion as a fan favourite.

Barnett suffered a unanimous decision defeat to Hamdy Abdelwahab at last month's UFC 321 in his last outing.

The Spanish fighter not only lost but also suffered a wardrobe malfunction.

Kiefer Crosbie has also been cut after losing three consecutive fights in the UFC.

The Irish fighter lost to Kevin Jousset, Sam Patterson and Taiyilake Nueraji, who beat him in controversial fashion last August.

Chinese prospect Nueraji beat Crobie in the first round after kneeing him in the face while he was on the ground.

Despite the illegal blow, Crosbie resumed the fight but was later stopped.

Holobaugh is no longer in the UFC, too.

He has been released for a second time, having gone 2-3 in his second UFC spell.

The American made his UFC debut in 2018 after coming through Dana White's Contender Series.

His first stint lasted just two fights before he re-entered the promotion in 2023.

Holobaugh beat Austin Hubbard and Kaynan Kruschewsky, while losing to Trey Ogden, Alexander Hernandez and Jordan Leavitt.

More cuts could happen once UFC 322 is in the books.
