According to rock music icon Alice Cooper, one player’s golfing talent left both Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson in awe - that man was John Daly.
Daly, one of the most beloved golfers to ever grace the green, is fondly remembered for his astonishing hitting power, and two PGA Championship wins in the 1990s.
The American prevailed at the 1991 PGA Championship, at Crooked Stick Golf Club, then claimed the Open Championship at St Andrews in 1995; elsewhere, golf’s ‘GOAT’ Woods and six-time Major champion Mickelson were left in awe, according to ‘The Godfather of Shock Rock’ Cooper.

‘Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson were envious of John Daly,’ reveals Alice Cooper
Speaking exclusively to talkSPORT, Cooper revealed that both Woods and Mickelson, who won a combined 21 Majors, accepted Daly’s wedge game was “the best” on the PGA Tour.

“There's so many great stories about John Daly,” began Cooper. “I asked Tiger and I asked Phil, who's the best guy 60 yards in? They both said John Daly.
“They said he had the best hands of anybody out there,” the American rock icon revealed. Daly won five official PGA Tour events; bizarrely, he is the sole eligible two-time Major winner that was never selected to play in the Ryder Cup.
The American, who Woods and Mickelson believed to be golf’s best with short clubs, once claimed: “If I could play the Tour drunk, I’d win every week. In pool, if you [got] me sober, I wouldn’t make a ball.”
Daly, whose struggles with alcoholism are well-documented, even has a cocktail named after him - the ‘John Daly’ is an alcoholic spin on another golfer-inspired cocktail, the ‘Arnold Palmer.’
‘The Godfather of Shock Rock’ also suggested that drinking, despite Daly having never played in the Ryder Cup, is why Team Europe has enjoyed success at recent editions.
“Why is it that the European team played doubles better than anybody?” questioned Cooper. “It's because you guys drink together, you guys all go to the pub afterwards. The Americans are money players. They don't think team wise.
“I think the Europeans probably have more fun. The Americans are more technical. I mean, an American guy goes out there and he's got 14 people… psychologist, a putting guy.
“I'm going ‘what happened when you had Johnny Miller and Lee Trevino and those guys?’ They didn't have anybody, they just showed up,” Cooper concluded.

What is Alice Cooper’s link to Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, John Daly and golf?
When Cooper isn’t singing in his famously raspy American cadence, the 78-year-old is enjoying golf lessons with Daly, Johnny Miller and Rocco Mediate, all of whom are multi–PGA Tour champions.
While ‘The Godfather of Shock Rock’ isn’t expecting to make a PGA Tour appearance soon, Cooper claimed that, if he did, his signature look, complete with dripping eyeshadow, would remain.
“If I ever actually took a year off, took my lessons, and if I could shoot 68, 69 every day and get on the tour, I'd go full make-up,” claimed the 78-year-old. “Because, come on, if you can shoot 68, and play with those guys, why not?”
The American revealed in January of this year that his golf handicap, at his peak, was two, but it is now four. Cooper also claimed “there was a moment in the early ‘90s where I went, ‘How weird would it be for Alice to be on the Tour?’”
The rock icon has made his support for Woods clear throughout the career of golf’s ‘GOAT,’ publicly declaring in 2015 that the 15-time Major winner would “win at least 10 more tournaments" upon returning to the PGA Tour.
While his prediction was slightly off, Woods won three events, including the 2019 Masters after an 11-year Major drought.
