Donald Trump sent a message directly to Rory McIlroy following his historic win at The Masters.

Late on Sunday evening, McIlroy further cemented himself as one of golf's greatest ever players as he once again won The Masters at Augusta National.

In doing so, the Northern Irishman became only the fourth player to win the green jacket in consecutive years, alongside fellow legends Jack Nicklaus, Sir Nick Faldo and Tiger Woods.

Throughout the weekend McIlroy set records, boasting the largest lead heading into day three in history, and held his nerve despite pressure from the likes of Cameron Young, Justin Rose and Scottie Scheffler.

And it's safe to say that US President Trump was impressed, as he reached out to McIlroy on social media following his win at The Masters.

Posting on Truth Social, Trump wrote: "Congratulations to Rory McIlroy on another Great Championship, The Masters!

"He performed tremendously under intense pressure, something which few people would be able to even think about doing. With each year, Rory is becoming more and more a LEGEND! I look forward to watching him compete in two weeks at Doral.

"The quality of Professional Golfers today has become extraordinary, each and every one of them. They should all be proud of the way they played at The Masters this weekend! President DONALD J. TRUMP."

In his post, Trump mentioned the PGA Tour will making its return to the Trump National Doral's Blue Monster course for the 2026 Cadillac Championship, set to take place later this month from April 29 to May 3.

No doubt the American president will be eager to speak with McIlroy during the weekend, having already played with the six-time major winner in the past.

In another social media post, Trump shared a photo of himself alongside both McIlroy and his father, Gerry, during their visit to Trump International Golf Club, Palm Beach County, Florida.

Trump's palm beach course is close to McIlroy's home in Jupiter, Florida, and according to the Northern Irishman’s former agent Andrew ‘Chubby’ Chandler, he has played several rounds on the course with the American president.

Chandler, who worked with McIlroy between 2007 and 2011, said: “You forget that Donald will have played with Rory three or four times in Jupiter. They’re almost neighbours.

“I don’t know how many times Rory has played with him, but I’ll bet it’s more than once. Trump loves golfers. He absolutely loves golfers. The President of America is a proper golfing nut, and there’s nothing wrong with it."
