Donald Trump once made a brutal joke about North Korean leader Kim Jong Un's golfing ability, comparing him to a legend of the sport.

Despite being in perhaps the busiest job in the world, US President Trump always makes sure to leave time to relax and play a round of golf.

The 78-year-old isn't the only major political leader who enjoys playing a round on the golf course, as North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is also said to be a talented player.

But Trump once called out the validity of his fellow head of state's supposed golfing ability, aiming a brutal joke at the 41-year-old in the process.

Back in 1994, Kim Jong-Il, the father of Kim Jong Un, reportedly put in one of the greatest performances on a golf course ever recorded.

According to North Korean state media, in the very first, and only, golf round in his life, the North Korean leader incredibly shot 38 under par in a round including 11 holes-in-one at the 7,700-yard championship course at Pyongyang.

And it appears that his talents run in the family, as Trump commented on Kim Jong Un’s alleged golfing prowess and compared him to one of the greatest players of all time while speaking at a private dinner back in April 2018.

As reported by VoaNews, Trump told his dinner guests: "You know that Kim Jon Ung is a great golfer. He would make Jack Nicklaus look like a beginner.”

The American president apparently went on to mock how the North Korean state media have created a untouchable and almost god-like image around the three generations of the ruling Kim family.

"Did you ever hear that? He shot an 18. It’s actually his father, you know who they said shot an 18. It’s just one weird deal,” Trump added.

However, several reports have claimed that Trump himself isn't exactly the cleanest of golfers, with sports journalist Rick Reilly claiming that the 47th US president has earned himself the nickname of Pele because he would kick the ball to move it to a better position.

Writing for the Sunday Times, Reilly claimed: "To say Donald Trump cheats is like saying Michael Phelps swims.

"Trump doesn't just cheat at golf. He cheats like a three-card monte dealer. He throws it, boots it and moves it.

"Whether you're his pharmacist or Tiger Woods, if you're playing golf with him, he's going to cheat."
