One of Donald Trump's golf courses in Scotland could be facing closure.

The US President stepped down as a director of the picturesque Trump Turnberry club in Ayrshire after he was elected in 2016.

Turnberry boasts three links golf courses and the beautiful surroundings of the Firth of Clyde. It hosted The Open four times before the $60 million purchase in 2014.

It opened more than a century before it came under the ownership of Trump, who is a terrific golfer, and reopened after it was redesigned in the aftermath of World War II.

The club's parent company, Golf Recreation Scotland Limited, is now solely owned by Eric Trump, Donald's son and the uncle of Kai, who is almost as good a golfer as her grandfather.

Companies House has served Golf Recreation Scotland Limited with an official notice over its failure to file the correct paperwork at the start of this year.

"The firm behind the golf course has been served with a first gazette notice for compulsory strike off by Companies House after failing to submit a confirmation statement by 25 February this year," reports Jon Robinson of the financial news outlet City AM.

"A confirmation statement includes details of a firm’s directors, shareholders, registered office address and other key data."

If the company did get struck off, Trump Turnberry and its other assets would become property of the Crown and Eric Trump would face a possible disqualification from being a director lasting up to 15 years.

The company's bank accounts would be frozen too, so one suspects the papers will now be filed.

"The strike off notice could be discontinued by Companies House if a confirmation statement is filed before the next stage is reached," clarifies City AM.

Turnberry last hosted The Open in 2009, when American Stewart Cink won his only major by beating compatriot Tom Watson in a four-hole play-off on Turnberry's par-71 Ailsa course.

Donald Trump's penchant for a round of golf is infamous and allegations of systematic cheating follow him around the fairways like an over-zealous caddy.

Those working at another of Trump's courses once told the media that they would make sure he gets a good lie.
