Red Bull rebuild gathers pace with Gianpiero Lambiase and Helmut Marko replacements found

Red Bull's rebuild is already gathering pace ahead of the 2027 campaign as they have identified their replacement for Gianpiero Lambiase.

In April, it was announced that Lambiase would join McLaren 'no later' than 2028, with his Red Bull contract expiring in 2027.

Lambiase is the current race engineer at Red Bull and has worked at the team since 2015, initially alongside Daniil Kvyat before becoming Verstappen's race engineer when he joined the team in 2016.

Considered one of the leading engineers in F1, the Londoner helped guide Max Verstappen and Red Bull to four successive Drivers' Championships between 2021 and 2024.

McLaren have already announced that Lambiase will become their Chief Racing Officer in the next two years, and it appears his replacement has been identified.

Tom Hart is set to succeed the 45-year-old as Red Bull's race engineer, reversing an agreed move to join rivals Williams in favour of work under Verstappen.

Hart has previously gained experience as a race engineer during tests with reserve driver Yuki Tsunoda, and according to Dutch outlet De Telegraaf, could stand in for Lambiase in a few races to ensure a smooth transition into 2027.

A change of role for Hart marks the beginning of a rebuild for the F1 powerhouse, who have also made a move to prise Mercedes talent scout Gwen Lagrue away from their rivals, with the 50-year-old set to lead Red Bull's driver development programme.

Lagrue has been recruited as a replacement for Helmut Marko after he retired from his long-time role as Red Bull's motorsport advisor at the end of last year.

The Frenchman is seen as a key signing for Red Bull during a period where they've lost many of their top personnel.

Chief technical director Adrian Newey has already moved to Aston Martin, and head of strategy Will Courtenay made the switch to McLaren, with head of racing Lambiase set to join Courtenay.

BBC Sport state that Red Bull see Lagrue's recruitment as a key part of re-establishing their young driver programme as the pinnacle of its kind following a decade at Mercedes.

Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies declined to comment when asked about Lagrue's future, but he would prove to be a shrewd capture.

George Russell was the first signing for Mercedes following Lagrue's appointment and the 28-year-old has since become one of the most talented drivers on the grid.

Perhaps more impressively, the Frenchman played a part in Kimi Antonelli joining Mercedes as an 11-year-old racing in go-karts.

He was mentored through an accelerated programme that saw him replace Lewis Hamilton when he joined Ferrari in 2025, with that decision being well and truly vindicated.

Antonelli has been in unstoppable form in 2026, securing his sixth victory of the campaign at the Belgian Grand Prix and pulling 45 points clear of the Drivers' Championship.
