Formula 1 legend Lewis Hamilton has admitted that he considered quitting the sport.

Ever since the controversial end to the 2021 season which saw Hamilton’s title snatched away in the last lap by Red Bull driver Max Verstappen, the Brit’s future has been up in the air.

Hamilton returned in 2022 but was unable to inflict his revenge as Mercedes failed to produce a car worthy of challenging at the front of the grid.

Heading into the 2023 season, there was renewed hope that Mercedes will finally have a car quick enough to help Hamilton win his eighth world title.

However, the first two races of the season proved otherwise as two disappointing fifth-place finishes showcased more galring problems for Hamilton and Mercedes.

Ahead of this weekend’s Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne, Hamilton admitted on social media that he considered quitting F1.

Posting a video of him running on a beach, Hamilton wrote: “Some days I feel like stopping. When I start to feel this way I dig deep and remember I'm on a mission. Whether you realise it or not, you're on a mission too. We're all chasing something.

“Some dream or goal that will make us better people, make our lives more fulfilling, and make us proud of ourselves. Some days it'll feel impossible to get there, but it's not. We can get it. We will get it.

“I know you're with me, I feel the love and support and just know I'm sending it back to you tenfold. We got this.”

This will come as an encouraging message for all Hamilton fans as he once again reiterated his desire to get back to the top of the sport.

With his contract expiring at the end of the season, Hamilton has also recently hinted that he will stay with Mercedes.

He said: “I still have 100% belief in this team, it is my family, and I’ve been here a long time, so I don’t plan on going anywhere else. But we all need a kick, we all need to get on.

“I will win again. It’s just going to take some time.”

Can Hamilton win his eighth world title? Only time will tell.
