Oscar Piastri snaps with savage team radio in nightmare end to Hungarian Grand Prix

Oscar Piastri completely lost his head on the McLaren team radio after a controversial moment may have cost him the Hungarian Grand Prix.

On Sunday afternoon, the F1 season continued at the Hungaroring in Mogyoród, Hungary for the 11th race of the season.

With the summer break set to begin immediately after the race, the pressure is on for all drivers to put in strong performances with the seats available on the 2027 grid set to be a significant talking point over the break.

Following an impressive performance in qualifying on Saturday, it was reigning champion Lando Norris that started Sunday's race on pole, ahead of fellow Brit Lewis Hamilton and McLaren teammate Piastri.

As the race went on it soon became clear that the battle for first place would be between Norris and Piastri, with the Australian eventually establishing a lead that looked like he would be able to hold onto until the chequered flag.

However, things soon fell apart for Piastri as, after pitting to put on a new set of hard tyres, he got stuck behind two backmarkers and eventually collided with Williams' driver Carlos Sainz.

And it's safe to say, he wasn't happy about it as he immediately took to his team radio to express his feelings.

"Get out of the f***ing way you idiot! Oh my God," Piastri said.

The struggle eventually meant that Piastri lost his place as leader of the race to Norris who, after pitting, came out ahead of his teammate and had since built a massive lead.

Commenting on the incident, Piastri's race engineer, Tom Stollard, said: "Oscar, that's Sainz that's cost us that."

Piastri replied: "Oh mate, just don't f***ing talk to me now."

Before sarcastically adding: "Nice of you guys to factor that in by the way, thanks."

Sainz was handed a five-second time penalty for the contact, but with the Spaniard fighting with his teammate for P19, it won't matter.

And things only got worse for Piastri as a gearbox issue forced him to slow down and eventually come to a stop and retire from the race on lap 56.

It's safe to say that the Hungarian Grand Prix will be a race to forget for Piastri and will go down as a real low point in what's already been a difficult season for the Australian, who currently sits seventh in the World Constructors Championship.

Reflecting on the race, he admitted that he'd enjoyed snatching from teammate Norris despite starting the race in P3, but that wsa the extent of the positives.

"It was definitely the highlight of my race and it went pretty downhill from there," Piastri said.

"A lot of things to unpack. Firstly, the pace on the hard tyres was nowhere, and then obviously getting taken out by a backmarker is never really one of the things you think can go wrong. But I was proven wrong. Then obviously the gearbox, so not the easiest of days."

Discussing the incident with Sainz further, he added: "I was crashed into by Carlos and, in the moment, I was hoping maybe they would not pit Lando because of that incident to at least give me the chance to stay in the lead but I think that's not very reasonable.

"I was just more very upset in the moment about what had happened. I think the timing of my pit stop was fine, we wanted to beat Lewis and that's what we needed to do to."

Piastri will now have to wait until the Dutch Grand Prix on August 23 to try and avenge what was a tough weekend in Hungary.
