'He caused that!' - Max Verstappen lashes out at Lewis Hamilton after frightening miss

Max Verstappen was furious with Lewis Hamilton as the pair came close to a major collision during final practice at the Italian Grand Prix.

The 2026 Formula One season continues on Sunday as the iconic Monza Circuit hosts that Italian Grand Prix, the 13th race of the year.

As always, the final practice session ahead of the race took place on Saturday monring, and it didn't take long for tensions to rise as Hamilton appeared to jump Verstappen in the queue, coming within just inches of a major crash.

Max Verstappen slams Lewis Hamilton for near-crash

As Hamilton attempted to get ahead of his rival before the final flying laps of the session, the pair were nearly wheel-to-wheel as the went past the pit straight.

Acknowledging the fun bit of side by side driving, on-board footage showed Verstappen giving Hamilton a thumbs up as he passed cross the line.

But just seconds later, the Dutchman was fuming on the team radio as the came close to a collision as Verstappen made a late-braking move down the inside of the first chicane.

“He caused that," Verstappen shouted.

Meanwhile Hamilton, who was forced to make a late move to avoid a crash by cutting across the run-off area, also blamed his rival, saying: " “I got blocked by Max, so…”

Carlo Santi, Hamilton’s Ferrari race engineer, added: “Yes, we saw.”

The incident meant that both drivers decided against completing their final lap, while the FIA confirmed that the stewards had noted the incident but would take no further action against neither Hamilton or Verstappen.

But the lack of punishment didn't mean that Verstappen was particularly happy on Saturday afternoon, as the four-time world champion continued to lament Red Bull's current car on the team radio.

Despite having set the third-fastest time in FP3, the Dutchman claimed that he was suffering a lack of power from his engine, sparking a hilarious message to race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase.

"Mate I have less power than a Fiat Punto!" Verstappen claimed.

However, Verstappen remains one of the favourites to win the Italian Grand Prix in Monza, with current championship leader and home hero Kimi Antonelli set to start at the back of the grid due to an engine grid penalty.
