Lance Stroll's Aston Martin salary revealed and his position among F1's highest-paid drivers is staggering

The base salary of Canadian Formula 1 driver Lance Stroll has been revealed by Aston Martin's accounts.

F1 straggler Stroll has been driving for Aston Martin and its Racing Point predecessor since 2019 and will continue to do so into 2027 alongside teammate Fernando Alonso.

Stroll's $12.2 million salary for the 2025 season, as reported by Planet F1, has emerged via the publication of the team's accounts, and has raised a few eyebrows, with fans on social media pointed out rather ungenerously that the team is run by Stroll's billionaire father, Lawrence.

Lance Stroll's salary is higher up the grid than his car

"According to company accounts, Golden Eagle Racing Limited was compensated $12.2 million in F1 2025," reports Planet F1.

"Golden Eagle Racing is essentially Lance Stroll’s personal business entity.

"It is to this that Aston Martin pays around $12m a year, which equates to Stroll’s salary and those of any staff he may employ."

It can be assumed that Stroll will be paid the same or more in 2026 and 2027. Based on current reported salaries according to F1 Salaries, that makes him the joint-ninth best paid driver on the grid this year.

While the sport is often ridiculed for being as much about the car as the driver, the discrepancy between Stroll's reported salary and his position in the world championship standings explains the cynical reaction to the news that he will partner Alonso for Aston Martin again in 2027.

Stroll currently sits joint-last in the standings having failed to place better than 13th in any Grand Prix this season.

The 27-year-old has completed just four races and has been forced to retire from each of the last four.

In the 2025 season covered by his reported salary, Stroll finished 16th with 33 points.

The F1 drivers delivering value for their salaries

According to the data shared by F1 Salaries, Stroll is just one of a number of drivers underperforming their reported pay in 2026. Stroll and Alonso – whose reported salary is listed sixth behind Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, George Russell and Lando Norris – are the most drastic under-performers, notwithstanding the relative limitations of the machinery around them.

That qualifier is further evidenced by the fact that Williams teammates Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon, aren't faring much better.

The teams getting the most bang for their buck on paper are Alpine and Haas, who reportedly pay Franco Colapinto and Oliver Bearman respectively among the lowest salaries on the grid, and Red Bull.

Between Isack Hadjar's performance with the main team and both Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad punching above their weight with Racing Bulls, the Milton Keynes outfit can enjoy a job well done on the salary front.

But the biggest difference for either better or worse is, of course, world championship leader Kimi Antonelli.

The Italian's estimated salary of $2m is joint 17th, level with Lawson and Gabriel Bortoleto. That's a theoretical jump of 16 places up the grid.
