Yann Sommer made a record 19 saves for Borussia Monchengladbach as they held on for a 1-1 draw against Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich on Saturday evening.

Julian Naglesmann's side, who are chasing an 11th consecutive league title, absolutely battered their opponents at the Allianz Arena.

But they needed an 83rd minute strike from Leroy Sane to rescue a point after Marcus Thuram had put the visitors in the lead with their first shot on goal just before half-time.

The Bavarians were unfortunate to come up against a goalkeeper in inspired form in Sommer, Switzerland's number one.

He proved to be a wall in the Gladbach goal, pulling off a variety of stunning saves - whether it be from distance or close range.

His amount of stops eclipsed the previous record set by Alexander Schwolow, who made 14 against Bayern earlier this year.

11 of Sommer's saves came from inside the box and he received a 10/10 rating from Sofa Score for the goalkeeping masterclass.

A compilation of every single one of his saves was posted online and we're not exaggerating when we say that Sommer genuinely produced one of the best ever displays in between the sticks.

The double save to deny Sadio Mane, a man in red-hot form, was utterly sublime. Sommer, 33 has been linked with a move to Manchester United and it's easy to see why they've expressed interest.

Despite the draw, Bayern are still top of the Bundesliga on 10 points, ahead of Union Berlin courtesy of a superior goal difference.

Gladbach are also unbeaten and occupy sixth position after two wins and two draws.
