Wrexham will have huge wage budget compared to League Two rivals, they want promotion

Wrexham will have huge wage budget compared to League Two rivals, they want promotion

Newly-promoted Wrexham will have a hefty wage budget next season, according to reports.

Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney will provide the League Two club with a hefty wage budget as they head into the 2023/24 campaign with high expectations.

So far, it has been a dream journey for the Hollywood pair, who completed their highly-anticipated £2 million takeover of Wrexham in February 2021 after taking 100 per cent control from the Wrexham Supporters Trust.

They have since invested a further £10 million into the Welsh club, with some of that cash covering the repurchase of the freehold of the club’s Racecourse Ground, while another £1.2 million was invested in shares.

With a number of solid signings, including the high-profile addition of Paul Mullin from League One Cambridge in 2021, the Dragons achieved automatic promotion this season after picking up a record-breaking 111 points.

Now, they face the prospect of League Two football, which will provide a number of stern tests, including play-off finalists Stockport and fellow promotion-winners Notts County.

That being said, Phil Parkinson will be provided with a wage bill that will 'almost double' most of their rivals, according to the Daily Mail.

In addition to the wage bill, both Reynolds and McElhenney are thought to be expecting a promotion sequel following last season's success.

So how will they fare in the Football League? Ben Foster, who is still deciding whether to rejoin the Welsh club, has predicted how they will get on.

The former Premier League goalkeeper is tipping Parkinson's men for a second consecutive promotion.

"I think we'll do alright, I really do," Foster said on The Fellas podcast.

"That first day of training when I got to see them, I thought 'ooh, there's no way you're National League'. I genuinely thought they'd do alright in League One, and maybe even in the Championship they'd hold their own.

"Wrexham last season beat Coventry in the FA Cup, held Sheffield United to a 3-3 draw and they scored a last-minute equaliser, and they only just narrowly lost in the reverse fixture as well. So they know how to play these types of players and they will step up their game when they need to.

"I've already seen a stat that says Wrexham are favourites to get promoted already. We've just been promoted, and now we're favourites to go up again. I'd back that as well... I'd back that because they're ballers."
