The texts Angel di Maria sent to his wife ahead of the World Cup final proved that he knew something special was about to happen.

Argentina took on France on Sunday at the Lusail Stadium in Qatar as both teams searched for glory.

Defending champions France were looking to become the first team since Brazil in 1962 to retain their trophy, whilst Argentina were looking to win the cup for the third time.

Now, Di Maria’s texts to his wife prior to the final have been revealed and he knew something special was about to happen.

He wrote: “I will be a world champion, my love. It’s written. I will score a goal. Because it’s written like Maracana and Wembley.”

The Juventus midfielder also added: “Go and enjoy tomorrow because we are going to be world champions. Because the 26 of us here and the families deserve it.”

Amazingly, Di Maria was spot on as he did in fact score a goal in the final, he expertly finished off a fine Argentina team move to secure his side a two-goal lead before half-time.

Although a Kylian Mbappe hat-trick dragged the match to a penalty shootout, Argentina were not to be denied as they came out 4-2 winners after the tense affair.

Di Maria is now a world champion, the predictions that he made to his family were all spot on.

After the final whistle, Di Maria took to Instagram to pay tribute to his family.

He wrote: “They never let me give up. They were always there beating me to death. I just want to say thank you so much for always being there for me. I love them with all my soul. CHAMPIONS OF THE WORLD.”

Di Maria, along with his Argentina teammates are currently back in their homeland as they were given a spectacular welcome by fans who have swamped the streets of Buenos Aires.
