Megan Rapinoe claims her injury in final ever game proves God doesn't exist, causes controversy

Megan Rapinoe claims her injury in final ever game proves God doesn't exist, causes controversy

Rapinoe went off three minutes into her final game.

Megan Rapinoe has declared there is no God after suffering a potential Achilles tendon tear in her final career game - causing massive controversy.

The 38-year-old announced before last summer's World Cup that she would step away at the end of the NWSL season with OL Reign.

Rapinoe had the chance to win the first league title of her professional career after OL Reign reached the NWSL Championship final.

Just three minutes into the game, Rapinoe hit the Snapdragon Stadium turf after getting her studs caught in the turf.

The midfielder received treatment on the pitch and the look on her face said it all. She knew her career was over in the blink of an eye.

As Rapinoe made her way down the tunnel, she received a standing ovation from everyone inside the stadium.

OL Reign would lose the game 2-1 to Gotham FC to make it an evening to forget for Rapinoe.

Post-match, she opened up on the 'devastating' injury, which she thinks is an Achilles tear.

Sat alongside teammate Rose Lavelle, Rapinoe had a few choice words on the concept of religion.

The two-time World Cup winner declared: "I'm not a religious person or anything and if there was a God, this is proof that there isn't. This is f**ked up!

"For sure, I tore my Achilles. I mean, f**king yeeted my Achilles in the sixth minute in my last game ever in the literal championship game.

"I guess I just rode until the wheels came right off! Now I'm just a NARP, a normal-ass regular person, having to do rehab which is f**king devastating.

"You gotta find the silver lining and the dark humour, and that's just who I am as well.

"That's life; it's part of the game. I was feeling really good before the game, wasn't feeling tight or wasn't having calf issues or anything. You don't always get to have the perfect ending."

Rapinoe will go down as one of the most influential female athletes of all time.

As well as winning the World Cup twice, she lifted the Ballon d'Or Feminin in 2019.

In total, Rapinoe scored 63 goals and registered 73 assists in 203 appearances for the national team.
