Wigan Athletic Are Looking For Someone To Be Their New Mascot: Crusty The Pie

Are you a bubbly and enthusiastic individual? Do you like the thought of walking around the DW Stadium dressed as a Crusty Pie on matchday? Well, this might be the perfect job for you.

Wigan Athletic are looking for someone with "positive energy and passion" to become their new mascot for the 2022/23 season.

The Championship outfit want the ideal candidate to entertain and motivate supporters of all age’s, both before the match and after, and represent Wigan as a brand ambassador at a variety of child focused promotional non-match day events.

In terms of working hours, the next 'Crusty the Pie' must be flexible to work 4-6 hours per match-day and work home matches at the DW, including evening, weekend and bank-holidays.

Here is the full job spec of the fixed-term contract role from Wigan's official website. You will...

  • Entertain and motivate supporters of all age’s pre-match and during half-time
  • Engage young supporters in an upbeat, friendly and welcoming manner 
  • Represent Wigan Athletic as a brand ambassador at a variety of child focused promotional non match day events.
  • Work alongside the commercial and hospitality team to ensure Match Day objectives are met.
  • Be the spirit of the team and have the ability to engage with fans of all ages.
  • Entertain children pre-match and during half-time.
  • Agree to photographic and video material being used [of you wearing the mascot suit] for business use.
  • Be available to work all home games [between 4-6 hours per match mainly Tuesdays & Saturdays) and 12 x hours per week during term time ( Weekdays 9am-3pm)
  • Uses awareness of participants social cues to determine appropriate levels of interaction.
  • Interact with children and young people with differing abilities respectfully and appropriately
  • Perform all duties both safely and responsibly, and to not undertake any duties that would damage the reputation of Crusty, and Wigan Athletic Football club
  • Attend a variety of non match day activity sessions, assisting the Supporter Engagement Officer to promote ‘Crusty’s Crew’ membership and encouraging new fans to enrol.
  • Assist with the planning and delivery of fun and energetic promotional activities.
  • Assist with the creation & delivery of social media content.
  • Be responsible for the care of the mascot costume and all associated resources used.
  • Ensure that all children and families who attend home matches have both an enjoyable and memorable visit to the DW watching Wigan Athletic

In addition to the above, the successful candidate will have/be:

  • Experience of working with and managing large groups of children.
  • Confident in engaging with supporters of all ages and backgrounds positively and proactively whilst wearing a costume.
  • Confidence in performing to a public audience.
  • Reliable and committed/able to work all home fixtures.
  • Ability to work unsupervised, using your own initiative.
