Jurgen Klopp Will Not Be Wearing A Suit For The Carabao Cup Final And He's Explained Why

Klopp will stick to his usual attire, unlike other managers.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will not be wearing a suit for his side's Carabao Cup final showdown with Chelsea - after wearing one for his last two Wembley outings.

The Premier League giants will square off on Sunday afternoon for the first major trophy of the season.

Managers traditionally swap their tracksuits and caps for a more formal outfit on cup final day, but Klopp is shunning that tradition for a good reason.

Klopp brought his Borussia Dortmund side to Wembley for the Champions League final in 2013 and they lost 2-1 to Bayern Munich.

He'd return to the capital with Liverpool for the Carabao Cup final in February 2016, losing that to Manchester City on penalties.

Klopp now has a third final at Wembley in his sights and doesn't want to make the same mistake again.

"I am not overly superstitious," he told the Liverpool Echo. "I will not wear a suit but not because I am superstitious.

"I am pretty sure that someone told me before the League Cup final that I needed to wear a suit.

"With the Champions League in 2013, honestly, it is really silly but someone told me that it was expected to wear a suit on the touchline and then when I saw the first coach next to me without a suit I thought ‘are you kidding me?!!!’ That was the moment I stopped it.

"No, I will not wear a suit for a football game unless it is a rule. It is not a problem. I don't go as a tramp to a wedding or whatever. There are things you have to wear, but if I have a free choice (I won't)."

Klopp ditched the suit for 2016's Europa League final loss to Sevilla and once against for 2019's Champions League final with Tottenham Hotspur.

The 54-year-old looks back on that 2-0 win in Madrid fondly and says he doesn't care how he looks as long as fans are happy with the result.

He continued: "If I look back on the pictures after the Champions League final and how I look and the pictures after we became champions and how I look there, I couldn't care less.

"So I look completely outraged, hat there, cap over there, bad shave, that is really not cool to be honest. It is not that I want to look like that, but it just happened.

"I cannot think around the game about how I look. I can't. I tried really hard and I never feel comfortable.

"For me, somebody has to put the things by my place in the dressing room and I just go in and from there we go. I could stand there in swim shorts as long as we win people will be happy."

Liverpool are still in contention for the Premier League and Champions League, in addition to the Carabao Cup.

They're six points behind Manchester City domestically and hold a 2-0 lead over Inter Milan in their Champions League last 16 tie.
