A video thread of Virgil van Dijk titled 'the greatest CB to ever grace the sport' has gone viral.

@CF_Compss has produced a brilliant Twitter thread of Van Dijk's overall game to celebrate his 31st birthday.

The Twitter user has shared a compilation of the defender in action for Liverpool and the Netherlands.

The detailed thread also takes a closer look at the star defender's other attributes.

From 'starting the attack' to '1v1 defending' - not to mention 'goal threat' and 'ball progression'.

The 'starting the attack' clip highlights Van Dijk's incredible distribution, vision and cross-field passing.

The '1v1 defending' video showcases his composure in duels, showing off his successful battles against the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland.

The 'goal threat' footage shows how much of a threat Van Dijk is in the opposition box.

And, finally, the 'ball progression' video puts a spotlight on his ability on the ball.

The video thread is accompanied with the caption: "Happy Birthday to the greatest CB to ever grace the sport, Virgil Van Dijk."

Van Dijk's regarded as one of the best centre-backs in world football following his commanding performances at the back for Liverpool.

The Dutchman also produced stellar showings for Southampton before he secured his big-money move to Anfield.
