Jim White's transfer senses must be tingling because after weeks of rumours, negotiations and Arsenal fans even tracking his flight on the internet Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has officially become an Arsenal player.

It seems almost months ago that Alexis Sanchez moved from Arsenal to Manchester United, a mixture of that transfer taking so long, the incredible length of time that January takes up and the protracted saga of Aubameyang replacing Sanchez.

Even before Arsenal lost their Chilean to their fellow Champions League chasers they've been on the hunt to replace him although for most of that time Aubameyang has been the main target.

The Gunners' offer was initially too low but Aubameyang travelled to London yesterday and was in the country in time for Arsenal's loss to Swansea last night.

He completed his medical on Wednesday morning with the transfer window closing at 11 p.m but he signed before the deadline for around £57 million.

In a statement on the club website BVB sporting director Michael Zorc said: "Apart from the unpleasant events of recent weeks, we like to remember that the story of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at BVB for more than four years was a single success story. He has done great things for Borussia Dortmund at this time, scored many important goals and is part of the team that brought the DFB Cup to Dortmund in 2017. We wish Pierre-Emerick all the best for his future at Arsenal. "

Aubameyang was the Bundesliga's top goalscorer last season, beating Robert Lewandowski to the title, scoring 31 goals in the process and has already bagged 13 league goals this term.

The former AC Milan forward could make his debut this weekend. Arsenal take on Everton in the league on Saturday in the 5.30 game.

Arsene Wenger's side are now eight points off the Champions League places and the manager will be hoping the additions of Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, following the departures of Sanchez and Theo Walcott, can turn their fortunes around.

The Gunners are already out of the FA Cup this season but do have the Carabao Cup final at the end of February to look forward to against Manchester City at Wembley.
