Bruno Fernandes Wants Manchester United To Sign International Teammate

With Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane deals getting closer, Manchester United could then switch their attention to a midfielder.

Bruno Fernandes is hoping that Manchester United add one of his Portugal teammates to their team, and the club do have a 'genuine' interest.

United are on the verge of signing Jadon Sancho, with fans patiently awaiting the announcement after he had a medical at the club last week.

The Premier League side are also expected to land Raphael Varane from Real Madrid sooner rather than later, with the World Cup winner reportedly telling his current side he wants to leave.

However the spending for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side may not end there, with talk of a midfielder potentially being brought to Old Trafford.

Wolves' midfielder Ruben Neves is one player whose name has been mentioned and journalist Dean Jones, speaking to The Football Terrace, United's "pursuit is genuine."

United's most integral player in the past 18 months, since he signed for the club, has been Fernandes and Jones added that it could play a role in the club's attempts to sign his fellow Portuguese midfielder.

"Bruno Fernandes is particularly obviously very keen for Neves to come and join and I think the club are aware of that," Jones said.

The pair have played together with the national side and were both in the squad for the recent Euros, although neither got that much game time.

Neves could certainly help Solskjaer with his transition into a more attacking 4-3-3, by sitting in a deeper role and help feed Fernandes and Paul Pogba.

The United boss has often used the double pivot of Scott McTominay and Fred to protect his defence but the addition of Varane could see the end of that system and the manager is keen to add a defensive midfielder.

Neves has also been heavily linked with Arsenal in the past and Jones claimed that Mikel Arteta's team were still the 'most active' in trying to get the deal done.

United have been sorting out their two high profile moves, and are also trying to sign Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid, so a midfielder hasn't been as high on the priority list.

The Gunners meanwhile are trying to get their move for Brighton centre back Ben White over the line, after signing midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga from Anderlecht.

If the Red Devils can't add the 24-year-old to their team then they could turn up their pursuit of Eduardo Camavinga.

They have been heavily linked with a move for the Rennes midfielder, although he could also be being lined up as a replacement for Paul Pogba, with his fellow France teammate being linked with PSG.

If United do add a deeper lying midfielder and Trippier, along with Sancho and Varane, then they'd surely have to be considered title contenders.
