Barcelona Offered Coutinho and Dembele Alternative

Barcelona Offered Coutinho and Dembele Alternative

Not a bad option

It's not often anyone says this in the modern era, but Barcelona appear to be in turmoil; Neymar's gone, fans are rebelling against club president Josep Bartomeu, Real Madrid have just spanked them 5-1 on aggregate in the Spanish Super Cup and £40 million has just been spent on Paulinho, of all people.

Ernesto Valverde's men were distinctly second best, once again, to European and Spanish champions Real, succumbing to a 2-0 defeat at the Bernabeu, with a replacement for Neymar still nowhere to be seen.

Despite pocketing a world record breaking fee from Paris Saint-Germain of €222 million for the Brazilian forward two weeks ago, the only portion of that that has been reinvested in the first team squad is the aforementioned £40 million on Paulinho.

Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele continue to be linked with big money moves to the Camp Nou and, if reports are to be believed, both men are doing their level best to force a move to Catalonia, yet with every passing day one of them isn't paraded around in a Blaugrana shirt, the Barca fans become more and more restless.

And there's a good chance neither Coutinho or Dembele will arrive before 31st August, with Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund both digging in their heels in resisting offers for their prized assets. However, an exciting alternative may be available to Barca.

Julian Draxler, who only arrived in the French capital from Wolfsburg in January, has been offered to the La Liga giants, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The German winger was not even named in Unai Emery's match day squad, last weekend for the victory over Guingamp and has now been offered to Barcelona by his agent.

Draxler enjoyed an electric start to his PSG career, scoring 10 times in 25 appearances in all competitions, including a sensational effort against Barcelona in the first leg of their titanic Champions League second-round tie. The 23-year-old would also go onto score in the French League Cup final triumph over Monaco.

Neymar's arrival has now seen Draxler demoted by Emery, however and the former Schalke man is thought to be after a change of scene, which could play right into Barcelona's hands.

Draxler had been a long-term target of Arsenal's, but it would appear that, should the German winger be on the move again, that he will once again be opting against a move to North London, should Barcelona decide to make their move.
