Lionel Messi's contract will be tough to register if the club don't reduce their wage bill, as will the club's new summer signings.

Barcelona are trying to ease their financial problems in order to register Lionel Messi's new contract, and three defenders could be sold this week.

Messi has reportedly agreed to a new five year deal at Barcelona, although no official announcement has been made, that would see him take a 50% pay cut on his previous deal.

However the club's desperate need to reduce their wage bill isn't stopping there, with the reduction necessary in order to register new signings Sergio Aguero, Memphis Depay and Eric Garcia, so they can play next season.

Antoine Griezmann looks to be the most likely to be sacrificed, with the club trying to negotiate a move to send him back to Atletico Madrid, but that's not the end of it.

According to SPORT, Clement Lenglet, Sergino Dest and Samuel Umtiti are all available and could be departing the Nou Camp as early as this week.

Centre back Lenglet started 29 games in La Liga last season and was part of France's squad at Euro 2020 this summer.

However he has failed to convince in his time at Barca and was poor in his only appearance for the national team at this summer's tournament, when they lost on penalties after a 3-3 draw with Switzerland.

Garcia's signing from Manchester City suggests that he will partner Gerard Pique next season, as long as his contract can be registered.

Arsenal, despite being on the verge of signing Ben White from Brighton, and Tottenham Hotspur, are both reportedly interested in the 26-year-old, though he doesn't want to leave the club.

Dest only joined last summer from Ajax but the report says that the 20-year-old didn't really impress too much on his debut season.

Ronaldo Koeman's side have signed Emerson from Real Betis so they have an up and coming right back in their squad already.

Bayern Munich, who were linked with Dest before Barca signed him, and Inter Milan, in need of a replacement for Achraf Hakimi, are both reportedly interested.

Umtiti doesn't want to leave or lower his wages at the Nou Camp and it could be difficult to get rid of the former Lyon centre back.

The Ligue 1 side do want him back but they would need him to accept less money on a loan, he has been told that he won't feature for Koeman's side next season.
