Manchester United remain busy in the transfer window as they continue to be linked with a host of names, and late last night they had a massive offer rejected.

Reports surfaced from Italy claiming that United had a £52.4 million bid rejected for Real Madrid's Alvaro Morata with the club holding out for a whopping £78 million, according to Sky Italia.

The deal didn't include David De Gea who remains heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford with Real Madrid keeping tabs on the Spanish international.

It had been suggested that Jose Mourinho was willing to sell De Gea for just £22 million as long as Morata came the other way, though, it goes without saying, the United boss is keen to hold onto one of his key players while drafting in new talent.

Following a season where he played second fiddle to the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema, Morata has grown frustrated at the lack of opportunities and is eager to play regular first team football.

Despite that the Spanish striker bagged a very respectable 20 goals in all competitions including 15 goals in the La Liga.

It continues the talks between the clubs following the supposed £60 million bid United turned down for De Gea. Real are hellbent on snapping up a high profile stopper for next season.

As well as their pursuit of De Gea, Florentino Perez has also reportedly identified Chelsea's Thibaut Courtois.

Meanwhile, if United are ultimately unsuccessful in their attempt to land Morata, reports indicate that Mourinho is set to plot a bid for Torino's red-hot striker Andrea Belotti.

The Italian goal machine has a mega £87.3 million release clause and is being monitored by Europe's elite with Chelsea and Arsenal, among others, interested.
