Everton are closing in on the £27 million signing of Besiktas striker Cenk Tosun after agreeing a fee.

The Toffees have been crying out for a striker, with Sam Allardyce very vocal about the team's shortage of goals up top

They spent big in the summer but never managed to replace Romelu Lukaku. Even if Wayne Rooney is on 10 Premier League goals for the season, the likes of Sandro Ramirez, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Oumar Niasse haven't been consistent enough - hence Everton's desperation to get a high-quality frontman in.

Tosun has been their top target for a while, and though things went a bit quiet in terms of negotiations, Everton have now agreed a fee with Besiktas for the 26-year old.

The Turkey international has been linked with a number of Premier League sides but it is Everton who have won the competitive race for his signature, with the former Eintracht Frankfurt man seemingly only needing to agree personal terms and passing a medical.

According to Fikret Orman, the Besiktas president, the deal should be finalised by this weekend if all goes well.

"Our interests and the players interests are important," he said, as quoted by The Guardian.

"Cenk wants to join Everton. We want to do our part and we are working on a replacement.

"The era of buy, buy, buy is over. This is the era of buy, add value and sell. A final deal has not been reached yet but we have an agreement over the price. The end is near. The transfer will be wrapped up by the weekend."

Tosun has been highly prolific in Turkey, notching a total of 64 goals in just over three seasons. He's netted 14 in 24 this season, including four in the Champions League for Besiktas.

Is he the answer to Everton's striking problems?
