Kylian Mbappe is currently tearing Europe apart with Monaco, but things could have been very different had Chelsea snapped the young starlet up when they had the chance.

The 18-year-old was a relative unknown at the start of the season, but a stunning debut senior campaign has seen the striker bag 22 goals in 36 appearances in all competitions so far, some of which have helped Monaco reach the Champions League semi-finals.

Mbappe is unquestionably the continent's hottest young properties but Chelsea fans will be gutted to discover he could have been their player several years ago.

According to his uncle, via the Mirror, Mbappe was playing for amateur French side Bondy, where his dad Wilfried was a coach, four years ago when he was spotted by the Blues' scouting staff.

Apparently, the price to purchase him would've been a paltry £17,000, however, the decision was taken to keep faith in their existing academy players, and Tammy Abraham and Dominic Solanke were promoted through the system.
